I've noticed that searching/indexing isn't covered by any PEAR packages currently. Is anybody working on one? I've been on a quest to find something object oriented which I can integrate into my web application easily. So far I've failed for one reason or another. What is used for the PEAR website (and the main PHP site too I guess) ? Is it htdig ? Does anybody have any suggestions for possible packages to use?
I have been using this in the PHP Classes site for many years with Ht:/Dig: http://www.phpclasses.org/htdiginterface
I've tried iSearch, phpdig and Swishe so far. They have either kept timing out when indexing, too complex to set up, not very well structured - making it hard to integrate into me code :-/
To index you have to retrieve your pages. If your pages are slow to generate, indexing will be slow. There are no miracles but you may want to consider caching content and also use an optimizing PHP script cache engine like this that is free but provides superior or matching performance when compared with commercial alternatives. http://www.turcksoft.com/en/e_mmc.htm -- Regards, Manuel Lemos Free ready to use OOP components written in PHP http://www.phpclasses.org/
