SQLite Package Problem

Hello.
I'm having a problem installing the SQLite-0.9b package.
When I type 'sudo pear install SQLite-0.9b.tgz', it proceeds normally, it runs phpize, but
then it tells me that it can't find the 'configure' file. Also, I want to know how I
would compile PHP with SQLite installed by default. I tried copying the directory to
php-4.3.2/ext/, but it doesn't recognize it.
Is there something I'm missing?
