I gave you the option to maintain HTML_Select, because you said you'd never use it for QuickForm unless maintain it. And you still have that option. I'll gladly add you to the list of maintainers.
I'll try to find the time to have a look at HTML_Select this weekend and make it comply with HTML_QuickForm_select. For the old HTML_Select users, this will probably means a BC break, so it will have to be released in version 2.0 There is a lot of work to be done with this element, even in QuickForm, so it might be the right time to do it.
I already looked at HTML_Select... The API is a bit different from current HTML_QuickForm_select, unfortunately. I think I have a solution for integrating HTML_Select to QuickForm while keeping BC. There should be 3 classes: HTML_Select_base: this is essentially HTML_QuickForm_select without QuickForm-specific functionality (note that HTML_Select_Common name is already taken!). HTML_Select: this will extend HTML_Select_base to provide a BC layer for those who need it. HTML_QuickForm_select: this will be a Decorator around HTML_Select_base adding QuickForm-specific functionality. Now, I don't want to take this up before we have some kind of unit tests to define the functionality, as there is a BIG possibility of adding a lot of new bugs.
