It's not a bug, but I'd like to see this changed too.
As you can see in the documentation (look at the
warning before Example 15-2):
http://pear.php.net/manual/en/package.authentication.auth.intro.php
you cannot use $auth because it's the name of the
session variable too. Use $user = new Auth() instead.
