Simon, Read the notes on version_compare, it does all this for you. It recognises all the version types used by PHP, that includes knowing that PHP 4.3.2RC1 is less than PHP 4.3.2 and PHP 4.3.2RC2 I believe the problem may be that the package.xml has PHP down as a package and not as PHP, I will check and get back to you tomorrow unless someone else wants to do it sooner?
This is a known bug in RC1, due to an unrecognized error in an earlier version of PEAR_PackageFileManager that is now fixed. RC2 of HTML_SetupWizard, which is not up at pear.php.net, but on Laurent's site, has this fixed. You can fix the problem by downloading and extracting the files, and modifying the package.xml so that the type is php instead of pkg, as you say. <deps> <dep type="php" rel="ge" version="4.3.0" /> .... other deps </deps> Greg
