NET_Socket and secure server

I seem to recall reading a message a while back indicating
that the Net/Socket.php file had a problem working over
secure server. Beyond that, I don't recall much else. Was
this, in fact, a problem? If so, was there a fix? I'm having a
problem currently with Net/Socket.php not working over when
run from a page on a secure server.
I've searched on Google and on the mailing list archive on the
PHPBuilder website but came up with nothing.
Any pointers in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
