With all due respect... Yes there are a lot of possibilities for this type of implementation, however, it seems silly to me to do it all at once. Greg's ridiculously simple patch lays the foundation for much elaborate functionality while preserving BC, which to me would seem the ideal. If you've seen how phpDoc 1.2.2 runs when this patch is installed I think you'd see why there is such a need for it. Also consider items like PEAR_Info, PEAR_Frontend_Web and so forth, which would indeed benefit from such a patch. I think this item should be pushed a little harder then it is, primarily because it is so useful, simple, and it has been available via Greg for quite some time already. Hesitations only hurt the developers that need that type of patch. Thanks, - Stan Lukas Smith wrote:

proposed?
I'm just curious because of some code I have been working on.
I think it is pretty certain that the PEAR installer will get such functionality. However as you may have noticed from some other posts in the pear 1.3 thread (on pear-dev@) this is not as clear cut yet how this will be implemented. Regards, Lukas
