pear worked twice, then nothing

Hi,
I have a redhat9.0 Pear is installed by default.
using the command
$ pear install <package>
I tried to install different packages
It worked fine with Archive_Tar and then Console_Getopt
I then typed
$ pear install
and then typed return by mistake
I gor the error message and the default help text
I then typed
$ pear install PEAR
and had the same problem, the same with
$ pear install list-installed
and any other pear command
I restarted the PC, nothing either
What's happening
I would like to have pear back !
I still need to install PEAR Auth and DB
