I had similar trouble last week. trying on a redhat server..
- after grabing the rpms from imagemagick.org
I ended up downloading
pear download imagick
running through the phpize/;./configure manually.
I eventually found out that for some reason it was looking for /usr/lib/libMagick.so which was not linked to the real /usr/lib/libMagic.so.XXXXXX (fixed by just ln -s'ing everything into the right place)
there are a number of files like this.. - I dont know the history behind the imagemagick lib's but they are very messy.. - the redhat rpms from redhat are even worse!
Regards
Alan
