Are there plans for a DB::quoteIdentifier() function?

I was wondering if there was any room for extension of the Pear::DB API to
have a function that quotes an identifier for the backend server.
EG: If the driver was mssql, then:
$dbh->quoteIdentifier("Some Column") --> '[Some Column]'
If pgsql, then:
$dbh->quoteIdentifier("Some Column") --> '"some column"'
(Note the case folding for postgresql).
Maybe this has already been done and I missed it, or have an older version,
but something like this would be quite useful to have standardized.
