pear installer on OS X

I'm trying to install some pear packages on OS X running PHP 4.3.2 and I am getting strange errors for some of the packages. I have included the 'pear list' output below as well as an attempt to install the Validate package. I haven't had this problem before so I'm not really sure what to do with it.
