Release Candidate 1 of PEAR_Info 1.7.0 is already available to download at [1]. If you have time, please test it. Don't forget to have a look on full easy configuration system introduced since beta6. See example pear_info5.php
I tried RC1 and your .pearrc file check does not work. Warning: PEAR configuration file '/.pearrc' does not exist in /usr/lib/php5/share/pear/PEAR/Info.php on line 211 That's ok because pear finds the file anyway, the system file. While I could use pear_info until 1.70rc1 without problems, it doesn't work now. By the way, you should use PEAR::raiseError instead of trigger_error.
