Hey guys! Trying not to sound too simplistic, HL7 is basically a messaging
standard to share data from one health information system to another.
Typical message types are patient demographics, appointments, orders,
transcription, results, etc. The communications is also a part of the
standards.
To be honest, I'm still refining where this project needs to go. The Perl
toolkit is not much more involved, but does have two daemons and better
documentation. The two daemons are definitely on the list to develop.
Additionally, I'd love to continue to populate many of the popular HL7
message types to make the API more complete. Lastly, documentation is a
must.
One part that I need to work through is the number of different versions of
the HL7 standards (2.2, 2.3, 2.3.1, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, etc). Most people that I
know use something based on 2.3.x and that might be a place to start.
This is where I'm at right now.
