| just a few random thoughts i would add:
|
| * don't spend forever hammering out the perfect design. iterate on
| actually getting things done.
|
| * don't worry about integration with the main php.net site. it will
| happen in time.
Agreed. As long as we have a reasonable framework (page
header/footer/navigation functions), all the fancy layout can be applied
later.
| * however, if you do want to eventually mesh with the main php.net site
| and the network of mirror sites, you should absolutely not require
| database connectivity or any non-standard php extensions (including xml
| parsers) to display content that you want to appear on mirrors. generate
| static content using whatever tools you want and let that be mirrored.
| this also happens to be much more cpu-friendly for the mirrors, which is a
| nice bonus.
The only thing I think is worth mirroring are installation tar balls when
that time comes. The database and everything related to that stays on
pear.php.net, we can deal with the traffic (I'm planning to put it on the
FAST-hosted server once it's up, for easier CVS integration).
| oh, and really look at cpan and pause if you haven't already. they aren't
| the competition, they're the trailblazers. :)
I know. :-)
