Make sure you've followed the documentation conventions (inline comments, etc.) 2. Assuming you want it included in PEAR, submit it to the list (or send it to me privately), and someone will commit it to the cvs tree. > and are there people working on moving pear forward? I'm assuming its > future should be something other than a directory under the php4 cvs > module... I'm a little bit unclear on the specifics (ie, _where_ we go besides the cvs dir), but yes, there are people working on it. I feel rather strongly that PEAR (in whatever shape) is the future of php components; we _have_ to agree on standards, or we'll never get to the point where someone can comfortably take a library from binarycloud, a piece from phplib, and something else from Horde, and build something out of them without going through 3 vastly different installation procedures, working with completely different kinds of code, etc. Obviously there are going to be people who want to write the same kind of library differently (or for themselves), and that's fine. But we need a central set of components that are easily useable to build pages. We've got a bunch of classes that are currently part of Horde that I'm willing to add into PEAR, if they're wanted. I'm kind of holding off since I feel uneasy about creating de-facto standards, and I want to make sure that what I commit matches the documentation and coding standards that everyone agrees to. However, if some more code would jumpstart things, I'm willing to move ahead with it. Here's a short list: a socket class (like IO::Socket in perl), some MIME stuff, a logging abstraction class with backends for syslog, sql, mcal, and text files and features for alerts/log observers, etc; there's more. If you browse around http://cvsweb.horde.org/ in the various lib/ directories you'll find more. Some of them are probably always going to be horde-specific, but that's a given. -chuck -- I won't die for Fernando Poo
