Yavor, ive been thinking about this also. i think one of the things that would help PHP establish itself in relationship to other scripting languages is a DBI like modular standard. ive been looking at the specs for Python's DBAPI, Perl DBI, Borland's dbExpress, AolServer's NS_DB, Pear::DB, ADODB and Metabase for ideas, and as time becomes available, i was planning on committing some "sketch" code and specs to paper before inviting more comments, and even drafting a preliminary RFC. time has been limiting, however, so im stalled for the moment. if you'd like to discuss some more, post here or email me ... PS. you may also want to look at www.guidance.nl/php/dbx for a recent attempt at a module level abstraction layer for PHP. I was thinking of wring a DB binary class with extentions for the different databases oci8, pgsql, mysql. Would that be usefull. yavo
