DB::factory() ?

I can't seem to get DB::factory() to work correctly. When I call it, the
script just exits - no matter what error_reporting is set to, there are no
messages, and nothing in the apache log.
Calling $dbh = new DB_mysql() works just fine, though. _Should_
DB::factory() work?
