and 'configure --help' should tell you whether it is --with or --enable

7) make all install i'd make that 2 steps as "make install" may require special permissions

that "make all" doesn't need (sudo)

To build it staticly into a new compile: 4) cd .. 5) ./buildconf 6) ./configure <your normal options> --with-foo (or --enable-foo) 7) make all install
