As far as you know C (and PHP) that's fine (and, of course, some other dev can help you)
If I may allow, I believe that many ext tests could be enhanced using strict_types. It would be a good starting point.

To be honest, it has been a while since I had an opportunity to code in C. Yes it could be a good starting point to enhance the existing tests and it's my professional job ;) We should start also by a "QA Release" to add the PHP 7.3 compatibility.
