Well... Not really far in fact. I am now diving into PECL_Gen because
Hartmut told me it could do almost all the work for me.

I haven't checked lately (my last check was at the start of past week)
but hey, if there is a new version, let's go for it. The issue about
openssl doesn't seem to exist for the 0.1 (I do remember I actually had
to install openssl in order to compile 0.1). I don't know about the
other bug.

I agree entirely. I must say I thought it would be easier for me to get
a result soon, but it seems like I can't find my way through when I get
errors like I mentionned (Error 0 at unknown) in my browser and nothing
in Apache logs :-)
If you have something already, or would do it pretty easily, go for it!
I'll help you as I can to improve/maintain it. My first goal was to make
use of the libssh, not just make an extension for the fun, so I am also
impatient to get a result now.

Well... I don't know much about PECL licensing but you certainly know.
If there is a problem, we can maybe ask the author to change the license
of one specific version of libssh (one that works with no bugs :-))

Just keep me informed if you actually decide to do something or do it
entirely. The author of libssh also told me he is a Gentoo packager and
would be glad to make a php-ssh extension enter into Gentoo.
