I haven't spec'd out all the details yet, but I don't want to paint myself into a corner by being too lax so early on; it is better to be more restrictive at this stage, and possibly open up in a later iteration. You know that changing this after 5.1 release and official introduction of PDO would be impossible. The problem I have with it that anyone that wants to write a portable abstraction layer on top of PDO such as ADOdb gains very little by using PDO over standard PHP database extensions. The code would have to be full of if ($driver) and such. Edin
