Just a heads up:
pecl.php.net will only accept packages packaged with the pecl.php.net channel. Fear not, there are two ways to release packages:
1) release through pear.php.net
2)
$ pear upgrade PEAR-alpha
$ pear convert
$ pear package package.xml package2.xml
This will automatically create a package.xml version 2.0 that has the pecl.php.net channel.
In addition, the old package.xml will be used by PEAR 1.3.x and earlier, so full BC is maintained.
I'm happy to answer any questions about this change if my language is unclear.
