Installing uploadprogress on shared server

I'm trying to install uploadprogress with the command 'pear install pecl/uploadprogress' and pecl install uploadprogress; but the install scripts fails at the very end when trying to copy the uploadprogress.so file to a directory I don't have permission to (shared server). Installing '/usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-zts-20060613/uploadprogress.so' ERROR: failed to mkdir /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-zts-20060613 It seems I need to pass the location of my pear/ext directory to the installation script somehow. I've looking in my .pearrc file and it is correct. I also added my local pear and pecl executables to my path. Is it possible to install this module locally?
