It sounds like there were a few extensions which were moved out of
the core and into PECL that do not have maintainers, and thus have
basically disappeared entirely. I don't currently have karmar in
the PECL tree(s), but would be more than glad to take over these
extensions enough to:
1) See if they compile against 5.3.0
2) If they fail to compile and...
a. I can fix them, get them fixed and published in PECL
b. I cannot fix them, try and find a maintainer for them,
or get them marked as deprecated.
3) If they pass (1), get releases built and the extensions
registered on the PECL site so they are available for download.
From a quick grep on the docs tree combined with poking around
on pecl.php.net, it looks like I'd need to look at some subset
of the following extensions:
ingres-ii
ifx
dbase
fbsql
nis
swf
Also, I think the following extensions should probably be
marked officially "DEPRECATED" - there are some "Notes" in
the book.xml files for them, but I'd like to make it more
consistent and clear that they're obsoleted by newer code,
especially since PHP4 is now more than a year past its official
"end of life".
