fileinfo problems

Hi,
Currently having a few problems with fileinfo and php5-rc2.
The module /looks/ to compile ok, and I get a 66kb .so out at the end. However, whenever I try to
run the test scripts for fileinfo, I get this
error:
Warning: dl(): Invalid library (maybe not a PHP library) 'fileinfo.so' in
/usr/src/Fileinfo/fileinfo.php on line 3
fileinfo extension is not avaliable, please compile it.
Permissions, paths, etc - all the obvious things have been checked about 50 times over.
Various versions of things follow:
autoconf : 2.59
automake : 1.6
libtool : 1.5.6
php : 5-rc2
OS : Debian Sarge (Testing)
Don't suppose anybodies got any ideas have they, or is it a random bug due to the zend api
change ?
