That is great to hear Pierre. I agree that library free extensions have many advantages. And having an open protocol, there is no reason this can not be achieved with PHP and memcached. Brian. -------- http://brian.moonspot.net/ On 3/22/10 10:15 AM, Pierre Joye wrote:
hi, I'm steping in as maintainer as I do need memcache for a portable, dep free extension to work with memcached servers. While memcached is nice, libmemcached (what uses memcached) does not fit well in my hetegenerous environments and its code quality is discutable (while working well). My main goals are: - implement the binary protocl - fill the gaps with memcached Then: - bring API compatibility so an app can use one or the other without having to modify its code Cheers, On Mon, Mar 22, 2010 at 4:03 PM, Brian Moon<brian@moonspot.net> wrote:
I am all for competition amongst extensions, but I would like to request that if this does not find a maintainer soon, it be deprecated in favor of pecl/memcached. As someone that provides support to the PHP users in the memcached mailing lists and talks about memcached at conferences, I have started recommending the pecl/memcached extension more and more. It has maintainers and has the advanced features of the binary protocol. I do not want to diminish the work that Antony and Mikael did on this extension. It was the only extension available in PECL for a long time. It served me and my interests very well. I appreciate the work they did. Hello all. This is an official announcement that PECL/memcache is currently looking for a maintainer. Mikael cannot continue his work due to a career change and I didn't follow the extension development for quite a number of years already, so we're looking for a person willing to take over the extension and continue its development and maintenance. Volunteers are very welcome.
