If everyone agrees this is a good idea, I would be more than happy to
implement it all as part of my extension. I looked into the links referenced
below, and think it would be easy to incorporate all of those features into
the extension. I started doing this extension because (as Wez mentioned) I
was wanting to do runtime license checking, but after exploring further I
found a lot of useful things which I could use in other projects if only they
were available. This is one area which I feel PHP is lacking in (obtaining
info about the system it's running on) and thus I would love to spearhead a
project to add all of this into PHP (even if it remains in PECL and not
incorporated into the core).
