If there is no usage of current built-in PHP lexer/parser as you mentioned, I don't see many benefits for making this as "C" extension. I think user space approach is better - https://github.com/nikic/PHP-Parser - this project is similar to yours I think. But I'm not against, maybe sometimes it will be useful for PHP core for switching current lexer/parser. M. Kubelik
