Extension Build Help (bootstrapping)

i'm working on an extension (i'll get around to a proposal later) which relies on binary data which is constructed from source text files. the interesting issue is that the extension itself is necessary to build this file. IOW, at the end of the build for the extension, i need to run a PHP script which loads the extension and compiles these source files into something useful. any pointers ? and since this is cross-platform, extra points will be awarded for a win32 as well as a *nix solution <g> l0t3k
