Are you still maintaining this one?
If not, does someone want to volunteer to step up and make it work for
PHP 5 and release a pecl package for it?

You can check the sources out of CVS and give it a go; see

cvs -d:pserver:cvsread@cvs.php.net:/repository co pecl/crack
cd pecl/crack
phpize # make sure this is your PHP 5 phpize
./configure
make
make install

test
