When 4.0.0 came out, I loaded the Win32 binaries onto my Win2k box, and had sporadic problems. I posted a bug report, and over time, I saw many duplicate bug reports.... You see, I didn't really care about reporting a "bug", so much as a solution.....after 2 days, I figured out that since I had installed the binaries in their own directory in the path, windows was getting confused on which MSVCRT.DLL to use..... so I renamed the PHP one, and everything worked fine from there.... Anywayz, I digress..... what I am saying is, afterwards, I looked for a way to post a response to all of the similar bug reports, but found I had to have a CVS number... ok, I understand that..... SO here's the idea.... Maybe we need a bug reporting system... AND a discussion board that can be cross-referenced in searches.... An example --- I wanted to see if anyone else had problems, so I would FIRST go to the discussion board, and search for the Access Violation error I was getting..... I would then find that someone had found a resolution to the problem, and be on my way, WITHOUT inputing a duplicate bug report.... If I did not find anything, then I should be given the option to file a bug report.... The idea is.... everyone THINKS they have a bug, but a lot of these are simple fixes or user error that could be resolved by posted solutions on this discussion board. If you cant find your answer there, THEN post a bug report.... I believe this would eliminate all of the duplicate bugs and ignorant bug postings that we are seeing, while allowing users to give feedback to solving specific issues that may in fact have nothing to do with a bug in PHP... (Yes, I know that this is what news groups are for, HOWEVER, by having everything on one search engine on the website, I believe it would drastically reduce the number of bugs submitted, and would allow users to post possible solutions to prevent multiple bug reports) Dennis Youngblood WebMaster ProWeb Publishing
