Dear PHP|QAT members,
James Moore has recently been talking to Zeev about the possibility of
getting the PHP|QAT members credited in the PHP credits. The first step
in doing this would be to get the PHP Group a list of people to credit.
When James went to review the current PHP|QAT member list, he noted that
it was quite out of date. There are members who have contributed little
more than a description of their skills and the message to the QA list
asking for membership.
James wrote me about this and we have been having a few discussions on the
issue. The basic points that have come out of our discussions are:
We need to update the membership. People who have not contributed are
getting credited, while some very active contributors (well, one to be exact
:) are not getting any credit.
We feel that it is fairly important to credit the people who deserve it.
As many people pointed out when the group was started, QA is fairly boring
work - it takes devotion or mania to keep up with the effort. The QA team
members should be getting some kind of reward for their work - even if it
is only a bit of ego polishing. :)
There should be new criteria for membership. Adding people before they
contributed was a bad idea (This is mostly my fault :) - we should add new
members after they have actively contributed to the effort for some time.
We should probably have a core group that consists of people who are very
active in leading the group and/or performing QA. We would probably ask that
these people be added to the PHP credits. Everyone else who is active
will receive credit on the qa.php.net website. (What do we think is a high
level of activity -- well, testing almost every release candidate and
hunting some bugs is a good place to start. )
If someone has contributed to the group in the past, but has not been
active in the last 2 to 3 months, they will go on the inactive or past
member list.
This should not be a formal process. I would hate to be part of a group
that spent most of its time dickering about with membership issues, instead
of doing actual work.
And finally, these choices should be made by the QA and Dev teams! So
speak up - let us know what you think.
Also, James and I have a list of the current QA team members, and our
thoughts on their statuses. Please let us know what you think. We have
based the list on our memories and QA mailing list contributions.
