DNS functions on Debian

There is an issue for Debian users : as .deb packages don't include libbind.so, there is no PHP support for checkdnsrr() or getmxrr() on this platform.
Did anyone run into this problem and know a fix ?
Compiling from sources using --with-libtool as stated in the INSTALL file doesn't produce the .so as expected.
