Are you by any chance using the c-client from Debian distribution?
If you are, then I'd suggest you get the sources for it and compile it
yourself as the one from Debian is broken AFAIK.
If you see libc-client.so there, then you've got the broken one.
It can't be compiled as shared lib (dunno why but the author himself said
that) and always when people have had trouble with it, just getting the
sources and compiling it 'the right way' has solved it.
