All Mac people, heads up!
I'm hijacking you guys for a minute from the 4.2.0 testing
efforts to test something else -- something pretty important
to future PHP versions on OS X.
First, download and untar Apache 1.3.24 from
http://www.apache.org/dist/httpd/apache_1.3.24.tar.gz
Then, apply this patch to src/os/unix/os.c (you can do it by hand):
--- os.c.old Sat Apr 13 21:39:10 2002
+++ os.c Sat Apr 13 21:39:30 2002

NSObjectFileImageSuccess)
return NULL;
- handle = NSLinkModule(image, path, TRUE);
+ handle = NSLinkModule(image, path, NSLINKMODULE_OPTION_NONE);
NSDestroyObjectFileImage(image);
return handle;
After this, compile your new Apache and test it with as many
dynamically loaded extensions as possible (php, mod_perl,
mod_gzip, mod_snake, whatever you can think of). We need this
patch to get dynamically loaded PHP extensions working on
4.3.0, and if we are sure that it doesn't cause any regressions
we have a good chance of getting it into the next Apache release.

P.S. Feel free to grab a fresh PHP 4.3.0 snapshot from snaps.php.net
and try out the dynamic extension support. phpize doesn't work yet,
though, so if you're interested, email me for extension
build instructions.
