With the PHP v.5.2.x user-stream class: http://php.net/stream_wrapper_register
stream_cast( int ) has been added into 5.3.
It moves forward with the integration of the vanilla stream_select with php user-stream objects.
These are in the current 5.3 alpha:
*STREAM_CAST_FOR_SELECT* / *STREAM_CAST_AS_STREAM*
There are many cases with a user defined stream when a read or write will pass through an arbitrary function, without an underlying stream.
Currently, one must work-around the main loop: stream_select(&$read,&$write,&$exception... $timeout = NULL).
When a user stream is not "selectable" by general standards.
CAST_FOR_SELECT can not distinguish a read stream from a write stream.
**A set of flags need to be added: *STREAM_CAST_FOR_SELECT_WR
*And a set of flags, when there is not an underlying read or write stream, but the user stream is readable or writable
Another request: User streams could use a "php_user_filter"-style base class.
If any developer wants to pick up on these before 5.3 release,
send me an e-mail, I'll collaborate.
