A more interesting result:
sb@ubuntu raytracer % /usr/local/benchmark/php-5.2-O2 raytrace.php
3258.5818767548ms
sb@ubuntu raytracer % /usr/local/benchmark/php-5.3-O2 raytrace.php
2527.3778438568ms
