Hi Alexander,
I have now recognized you, the student Nuno mentioned. Google told me
about the project:
http://socghop.appspot.com/student_project/show/google/
gsoc2009/php/t124023314595
It is great to have you and I am happy to provide any advice as much as I can.
To quickly start from coding, you may want to make a jump-start rather
than spending too much time for obtaining a community consensus of
suitable benchmark workload, by looking at some existing works for
providing webapp benchmarks in PHP.
My humble recommendation is to start from an academic paper written by
one of my colleagues which presents some experiments using hand-made
PHP Web application benchmarks:
Hiroshi Inoue, Hideaki Komatsu, and Toshio Nakatani, "A Study of
Memory Management for Web-based Applications on Multicore Processors",
ACM SIGPLAN 2009 Conference on Programming Language Design and
Implementation (PLDI 2009), 2009
http://www-plan.cs.colorado.edu/~pldi09/program.html#day3
(While it is not published yet, I have a camera-ready copy of it and
got a permission to send it to others from the primary author. I will
send it to you directly.)
You can first reproduce the benchmarks at hand.
Thanks,
Mich
