I'm not on the qa list so I haven't seen the results. However, it might
not actually be a 64-bit issue; it's possible that it is a big-endian
issue.
in ext/mbstring/php_unicode.c, NATIVE_UNICODE_ENCODING is set conditionally
based on the endian-ness of the platform at compile time. It is possible
that it makes the wrong selection for big-endian platforms.
If that is not the cause, then it is possibly that it is a an issue with
using a type that has a different size on 64 bit platforms; the code
appears to be OK to me, but I'm not an expert on this either.
Would be nice to compare results with another big-endian system (PPC).
