Hello everyone!
Condensed version
Name: Dan Chase
Skills: PHP, Perl, hardware, training
Focus: DOM XML, XSLT
Platform: Apache 1.3.x on Red Hat
Long version:
My name is Dan Chase and I work for the University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga as their webmaster. While I'm supposed to be a more content
oriented person--considering I work for the department of University
Relations--I REALLY am a techie! I came from the Help Desk here at the
University, and have a background in component level repair of PCs from
the days when that was economical. I am also an experienced trainer, and
combining that with my interest in XML, I have been training our in
house programming staff to use DOM XML with XSLT via PHP, which will be
my focus of working with the QA list.
While not a C programmer, I can look at the code and generally figure
out what it is doing, and make minor fixes and of course compile and
install my own preferences for PHP, Apache, Perl, SSL... etc.
My language strengths are probably Perl & PHP. I have an undergraduate
degree in education with a specialty in physics education and most of my
computer expertise is self-taught over the years.
The platforms I work on are primarily Red Hat Linux on Dell hardware. My
desktop is RH7.3 on a Dell Precision 420 Workstation at present (about
to be replaced,) the University's primary web server is a one U Dell
PowerEdge 1550 running RH7.3, we have a testbed server running RH8.0
also. All these systems use a standardized install of
Apache/PHP/Perl/...
Soon to try PHP 4.3.0RC1 on both Apache 1.3.x & Apache 2.
-Dan
