I think that I now have automatic cgi installation of php on IIS sussed.
I have a visual basic script that runs under the windows scripting host
(wscript - which should be present on all systems which have IIS4 or later).
The script is run by the installation software and takes command line
parameters which specify the location of php.exe and a list of file
extensions to map.
It then walks through the entire metabase, and each time it finds a node
with a scriptmap defined, it pops up a window asking the user if they want
to add the php mapping to that location. If the user answers 'yes' then the
specified file extensions are mapped to the php.exe at that node.
This script along with the installation software should add up to a pretty
painless experience for IIS users.
I need to do a similar script for PWS - this time working on the registry,
which I will need volunteers to test.
Similarly, I need to work up something which edits Apache's http.conf.
If anyone wants to include support for other web servers in the installation
software, then they need to write a script/program which takes the location
of the php.exe, and a list of file extensions as commoand line parameters,
and then configures the web server appropriately, providing further
interaction with the user if required.
Tomorrow, when I've cleaned up the VB script (my first ever!), I'll post it
to the list to see if anyone can spot any flaws, or pitfalls.
Cheers
