Is cache/nocache content a design issue? From a pure
design (look) standpoint, I don't think so. As one of
those combo template designers and developers, I'd love
to have the convenience of {dynamic}{/dynamic} blocks.
A pure template designer, though, shouldn't have to
worry about how the right info gets to the screen--just
that it's where he tells it to be. If I give my designer
a spec that says, "$name will have the user's first
name," he shouldn't have to know that $name must be
marked with a special syntax like {!$name} or
{dynamic}{$name}{/dynamic}.
So, I think Gerard's variable-based caching idea fits
well with the layout/content separation issue. An
assign_dynamic function would be great. But, for my own
convenience, cache tags or a tag symbol {!$foo} would
be nice. The variable-based caching should get priority,
though, and maybe it should be the only approach. It
would force us to not be "lazy" with content separation.
A semantic aside: I think "dynamic" is probably a better
word to use for a tag than "nocache," just because it
might be easier for template designers to understand.
