[Smarty 2.3.1] Problems with append

Hi. First of all it's posible that I'm not right 'cause it's late in this case ignore me please, but I think that something is wrong with append method. When I use assign then _tpl_vars contains an array of strings, when I use append then _tpl_vars contains an array of array's. In fetch method extract returns string Array so we've got nothing. I put sth like this right before extract in fetch method: foreach ($this->_tpl_vars as $field => $value) if (is_array($value)) $this -> _tpl_vars[$field] = join('', $value); to verify this case and it helped.
