installing soap

Hi, I downloaded the 0.1.2 soap source and I'm having trouble installing
it. I un-tarred it, and put the soap folder in
/usr/local/src/php-4.2.3/ext/ and ran configure with the following
options as per the php-soap web site docs.
./configure --with-mysql --enable-soap --with-apxs=/var/www/bin/apxs
then ran make
and make install
yet it's still not working, i redirected my ./configure and make outputs
to files and greped later for 'soap', and there's nothing in there at
all related to soap, I'm obviously missing something that didn't make it
to the docs? Any help would be great. Thanks,
