I understand that and of course it is particularly difficult to put a time frame on when things might be done. However, a document stating where the project is at and what is the planned future would be useful.
I'll have to talk to shane about that, i know he has ideas in mind. I'll contact him to see what we can come up with.
Timeline stuff is difficult for me since I have relatively little free time. However, I am hoping to have an alpha of a new soap library for php5 out sometime in october. I'm going to put my focus on PHP 5 because I feel the new features in 5 provide capabilities I tried to implement or fake somehow in PHP script. Here are some general thoughts on what I want to see happen... It will be based on top of simplexml and hopefully I'll be able to utilize some features from libxml. The transport classes will likely be changed to use the Curl extension, or at least to take advantage of the streams system better. Performance should improve significantly with this, since most heavy work will occure in C extensions. The soap library will likely be stripped down also, only supporting soap 1.2 and doc/literal on the server side. I want to do a 'lite' and a 'heavy' client. The lite client would only support doc/literal and no direct WSDL support (clients would be pre-generated with the wsdl tool or hand-written). The 'heavy' client would support rpc/encoded and dynamic wsdl usage. PHP 5 interfaces and abstract classes will be used to define server interfaces and data types that can be serialized into schema and wsdl. There are lots of other little details, such as supporting WSDL extensions, etc. Anyway, that's just a tidbit. I know it doesn't help now, but as I said, I have very limited time. Shane
