The point of this is to create somewhat of a ColdFusion (yuck) like system
but with the power and flexibility of PHP. I know this is not of much
appeal to hardcore or even experienced PHP developers, but to teach new
people how to create or modify a web based application, this is far easier
than teaching them how to deal with php functions and the like. The point
of the application is to make it easier to connect to databases, and (in the
near future) allow binding of HTML forms to a database to be automatically
processed and posted to the database based on business rules. This
eliminates the need for a developer on the backside of the application
(unless you are creating extensions of course). The nature of jadeke also
allows you to create your own functions and call them from a tag. This
allows you as the developer to create a nice API for your program, and
create simple XML files to do call the functions for you. It allows you to
create simple documents to do complex things without any true knowledge of
what is going on on the backend. I agree that it is not as simple as just
"knowing" HTML, but if a user knows HTML, it shouldn't be too hard to learn
a few XML tags... (this is my opinion and I know that it doesn't hold up in
a lot of cases, but heck, it's worth a shot :) Like I said earlier, this
may not be quite what you are talking about, but a template system could
easily be created in this manner also. If I am still not explaining myself
clearly, or you think I'm nuts and way off topic, lemme know, I'll clarify
or leave you alone! ;)
Here is an example of what I am talking about... this would create a
database object, query it, and allow you to easily print out the results...
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<document xmlns="http://www.jadeke.org/2000/jadeke"
xmlns:html="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<html:html>
<database id="dbTest" dbtype="mysql" host="localhost"
database="test"
username="fred" password="" />
<dataset id="dsetTest" src="dbTest" />
<datasource id="dsrcTest" src="dsetTest" />
<query id="resource" src="dsetTest" sql="SELECT * FROM test />
<printvalue colName="id" src="dsrcTest" />
<html:br />
<printvalue colName="name" src="dsrcTest" />
<html:br />
<printvalue colName="username" src="dsrcTest" />
</html:html>
</document>
