error reporting?

php4b3 is not reporting errors for me. Syntax or any other errors just result in "Document
contains no data". I have played with error_reporting(8) and the php.ini file to try and raise
something, but there is nothing in the logs or anywhere. php3 on another machine does fine.
Please help, it is impossible to build anything this way since I am not quite perfect yet ;)
