Hi, I have been regularly compiling php4 out of CVS and some time ago Sascha mentioned that CVS versions would compile only with a separate build tree. So I did the following CVS source checked out in /usr/local/src/{php4,Zend,TSRM} buildconf run in /usr/local/src/php4 Build tree setup in /usr/local/src/phpbuild Configure command run in /usr/local/src/phpbuild Whilst this works for most case, except when compiling --with-java where it gives the following error Making shared in java make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/phpbuild/ext/java' make[3]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/phpbuild/ext/java' cp: reflect.java: No such file or directory make[3]: *** [php_java.jar] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/phpbuild/ext/java' make[2]: *** [shared] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/phpbuild/ext/java' make[1]: *** [all] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/phpbuild/ext' make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 This is registered in the BugDB as http://bugs.php.net/version4/bugs.php?id=3512 The question I have is that I am unable to get php4 compiled without using a separate build tree. However, the CVS instructions do not mention anything about a separate build tree e.g If I run ./configure and make in /usr/local/src/php4 I get the following error Making all in Zend make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/Zend' make[1]: *** No rule to make target ../config.status', needed by Makefile'. Stop. make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/Zend' make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
