problems with gd 1.7.3

What am I doing wrong. The task at hand is to compile Apache 1.3.11 with PHP4b3 (from snaps.php.net - php4-200002181845) and gd 1.7.3 I have compiled and installed gd using the following settings in it's Makefile: CFLAGS=-O -DHAVE_LIBTTF LIBS=-lm -lgd -lpng -lz -lttf INCLUDEDIRS=-I/usr/local/include -I/usr/include/X11 -I/usr/X11R6/include/X11 -I/usr/local/include/freetype LIBDIRS=-L. -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/lib/X11 -L/usr/X11R6/lib -L/usr/local/include/freetype INSTALL_LIB=/usr/local/lib/gd INSTALL_INCLUDE=/usr/local/include/gd INSTALL_BIN=/usr/local/bin then I run PHP's configure with the following parameters, which gives no errors at all. ./configure --with-mysql=../mysql-3.22.25\ --with-config-file-path=/etc\ --enable-force-cgi-redirect\ --with-apache=../apache_1.3.11\ --with-xml\ --enable-track-vars\ --with-ttf=/usr/local\ --with-zlib=../zlib-1.1.3\ --with-gd=../gd-1.7.3 The I run "make" and "make install" next it's apache's turn it configure gets run with these parameters: ./configure -v \ --with-layout=RedHat \ --enable-module=so \ --enable-module=log_agent \ --enable-module=log_referer \ --enable-module=usertrack \ --enable-module=rewrite \ --enable-module=info \
