mcrypt module

What's the status with the "mcrypt" module? It's reported as "Working"
in
the MODULES_STATUS file. Using Beta4pl1 apache just dies when it's
starting up if I compile php with mcrypt support, well actually it just
exits cleanly, no error messages or nothing, no error messages from php
either. I don't know if this has come with beta4 as I haven't tried to use
the mcrypt module before. Any comments on that?
